    Ingredients:

    • cake mix and accompanying ingredients needed to make cakes: 1 box
    • round 8 – 9 inch cake pans: 2
    • orange food colouring: a few drops
    • yellow food colouring: a few drops
    • cake board: 1
    • cake foil: as needed
    • flour-added no stick cooking spray: as needed
    • sweets corn: 1 bag
    • Kit Kat bar: 12
    • decorator icing: 2 cups
    • cream-colored tulle ribbon: 2 feet

    Directions:

    Step 1: Preheat the oven, and mix up the cake batter according to package directions. Use a white cake mix with egg whites instead of whole eggs to keep the batter white. White batter will make the colours pop when you add the yellow and orange food colour to your sweets corn cake.

    Step 2: Divide the batter into 2 medium mixing bowls. Use a measuring cup to make sure you get the same amount of batter in each bowl, or you can weigh the bowls (if they’re the same) and make sure both bowls weigh the same amount.

    Step 3: Add a few drops of orange food colouring to one bowl of batter, and a few drops of yellow food colour to the other bowl and mix each until the batter reaches the desired colour of orange and yellow.

    Step 4: Spray both of the round cake pans evenly with flour-added no stick cooking spray.

    Step 5: Pour yellow batter into one pan, and orange batter into the other.

    Step 6: Bake the cakes according to the package directions. Step 7: When the cakes are finished baking, carefully turn them out onto a cooling rack to cool completely.

    Step 8: Once the cakes are baked and cooled, level the top of each cake with a serrated knife.

    Step 9: Cover a round cake board with decorative foil.

    Step 10: Add a small amount of icing to the center of the board; this will serve as a glue to hold the cake in place.

    Step 11: Place the yellow cake with the cut side down, directly in the center of the cake board.

    Step 12: Spread a layer of decorator icing over the top of the yellow cake.

    Step 13: Place the orange cake directly on top of the yellow cake, so the two cakes are lined up one above the other all the way around.

    Step 14: Add a layer of icing to the outside of the cake to seal in the crumbs.

    Step 15: Add a second thicker layer of icing to the entire cake. Don’t worry about how neat the icing is, it will be completely covered by sweets.

    Step 16: Unwrap the Kit Kat bars and separate them into sticks. Place each stick upright into the side of the cake, with the wording to the inside, one right against the other all the way around.
     

    Step 17: Wrap the tulle ribbon all the way around the outside of the center of the cake after you add the Kit Kats.

    Step 18: Tie the ribbon into a large bow on what you want to be the front of the cake.

    Step 19: Carefully pour a bag of sweets corn into the center of the cake, and spread them evenly over the top.

    Step 20: Clean up any extra icing on the cake board with a damp rag.
