Nothing says winter holidays to me like a warm mug of mulled wine or cider. Just one little sachet of fragrant spices turns an ordinary beverage into something truly extraordinary. The aroma that fills your home when you steep one of these beauties is amazingly comforting and festive, and let's not forget about yummy!
Mulled Wine Recipe
Make a warming batch of mulled wine - perfect for winter entertaining!
- Cabernet or any favourite dry red wine: one bottle
- sachet of homemade mulling spices: 1; recipe below
- brandy: 1/4 cup
- sugar: 1/3-1/2 cup (depending on how sweet you like your beverages)
Combine all of the ingredients (including the homemade mulling spices) in a large pot over low heat. Gently bring the wine up to a simmer, do not boil.
Allow wine to simmer for 20 minutes, stirring occasionally to ensure that the sugar has dissolved. Ladle wine into mugs and garnish with a cinnamon stick.
