It’s almost Earth Day and what better way to teach our children the importance of preserving our planet, than with a DIY that makes recycling fun? This cute craft for kids guides little ones in making a cool DIY Recycling Bin for your home. Your children will love recycling using their own invention—made by them and for them! With just a few items you probably already have around the house, you can make this bin they will love and will love to use!
- cardboard box
- coloured duct tape
- patterned masking tape (optional)
- markers (optional)
- stickers (optional)
Step 1: Use your coloured duct tape and cover the outside of your box. We chose white because we wanted our decorations to really stand out. The duct tape makes the box look pretty and helps reinforce the box for lots of recycling use!
Step 2: Add a second layer of duct tape to secure your box. If your duct tape is a light colour (like ours) designs on the box may show through, so use as many layers as needed to cover the box thoroughly.
Step 3: It’s time to decorate the box! Give your little ones total free reign and let them use their imaginations to adorn the box as they like. Supply patterned masking tape, markers, and stickers, and just let then do their thing! My son wanted to use patterned masking tape to print Elliott Loves Recycling! but we didn’t have enough room, so after careful thought, we came up with what you see below:
Step 4: Once your kids are done decorating, it’s time to start gathering all those recyclable items and use your new DIY Recycling Bin!
