My boyfriend and I don’t go to the movie theatre much. We’d rather purchase popcorn from the theatre (okay, maybe just me) and watch a movie at home. On more than one occasion, we’ve picked up a bucket of greasy popcorn and grabbed a movie from Red Box. It’s less time consuming. There is no planning involved. And what a relief! After a long weekend sometimes I just want to relax at home. Sometimes that’s all we have time for.
Besides, having a date night in is so much more intimate. So if you need to spend quality time with your partner, and not just while driving to work or when the bebes are asleep, a movie night for date night may just do the trick. (And you don’t have to spend mucho dinero for a sitter!) What to watch? Try our favourites:
Whether you grew up in the 60s or 80s, you probably know about Cantinflas, Mexico’s greatest comedy film star. And this movie reveals the untold story of his life. Grab your man and learn about Cantinflas’ humble beginnings and laugh at his infamous jokes all over again.
2. Somos Maria Pepe
This movie stars Alex (Alejandro Gallardo), a 16-year old teenager that is living with his grandmother. It’s summer time and he has so many plans. He’s going to write a new song with his rock band, find employment, and lose his virginity. But will the summer go as planned with a super dependent abuelita? Watch and relive your days of adolescent angst, innocence, and adventure.
3. El Cuarto Desnudo
Want to feel like a couple of techies? Grab your partner and watch this documentary. Through interviews with the likes of Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak, it captures the life of Alan Turing, a British educator and mathematician who is widely recognized as the pioneer of computer science and modern theory computation. He had many secrets, including his homosexuality, and was persecuted by the British government because of it.
4. Instructions Not Included (No Se Aceptan Devoluciones)
If you’re into tearjerkers but your man loves to laugh, check out Instructions Not Included (No Se Aceptan Devoluciones). Both dramatic and funny, this is the story of a man who is afraid of everything and anything in life, including heights and spiders. Until his father “fixes” the problem. Later in life, he becomes a playboy and pool boy. Let’s just say a baby shows up at his doorstep. Oops.
5. Y Tu Mama Tambien
When Y Tu Mama Tambien was released in 2001, moviegoers could not stop talking about one particular scene. I won’t tell you about it as not to ruin it. Let’s just say that watching this drama will get a rise out of you and your honey. So make sure that the kids stay the night at their abuela’s house.
