Rice Krispies Treats Partners with Autism Speaks to Create Love Notes for Kids

Did you know that 1 in 59 kids in the US is diagnosed with an autism spectrum disorder (ASD)? With back to school season starting up, lots of kids struggle to cope with how overwhelming it can be to switch from summer mode to school mode. But one company is helping to change that.

As a mum of three, one of the ways that I love to give my kids an extra little bit of emotional support during the day is to leave a surprise love note in their lunches. And now, Rice Krispies Treats is helping parents everywhere do the same with sensory stickers so that kids on the spectrum can have that same little boost of love from their family during snack or lunchtime.

Last year, Rice Krispies Treat launched a really cool line of Braille Love Notes for children who are blind or low vision. The idea is to help kids feel empowered by getting to experience a note from mum or dad in their lunch the way other kids without vision challenges do. The experience was so well received that Rice Krispies Treats decided to add on to the project by partnering with Autism Speaks to bring this fun and sweet gesture of love to kids on the spectrum.

The Touch-and-Feel Sensory Stickers Love Notes come in a pack of four and including that come packs of four and feature calming colours and textures like velour, satin, faux fur, and fleece. The stickers are lightly reusable and can be stuck on the top of a Rice Krispies Treat.

The Braille Love Notes are heart-shaped and intended to fit over a blank heart shape on a Rice Krispies Treat. The stickers are all in Braille and feature sweet messages like “You’ve Got This” and “Love You Lots.”

The inspiration behind that latest iteration of Love Notes from Rice Krispies Treats came from meeting S. J. Monville, a kindergarten student who has been diagnosed with autism. He relocated from a special needs school to a public school and as anyone can imagine, the transition was pretty overwhelming. With the help of Love Notes, S. J. was able to have a moment of fun and reprieve from the big feelings of change.
