By the end of the summer it’s hard not to be completely over the same old grilled steak and burger recipes. So why not take your grilling a step further for the fall and make some grilled drumsticks? Look – it’s still warm outside so if you are like me, you aren’t in a huge hurry to heat up your kitchen even though the kids are back in school and quick and easy dinners are in demand. Here’s a quick blended, Asian-style marinade you will fall in love with (seriously, you’ll want to slather it on everything!) My favourite way to use it is on grilled drumsticks.This recipe is a family favourite (toddler approved!) and a real crowd pleaser — so dig in and enjoy!

- for the marinade:
- chicken drumsticks: 3 pounds
- olive oil: 1/2 cup
- soy sauce: 1/4 cup
- honey: 2 tablespoons
- sesame oil: 2 tablespoons
- ginger: 6 inch piece, peeled and sliced
- garlic: 6 cloves, peeled and sliced
- freshly ground black pepper: 1/4 teaspoon
- for the garnish (optional):
- sesame seeds and thinly sliced scallions
Step 1: Using an immersion blender, or standard blender, combine the oil, soy sauce, honey, sesame oil, ginger, garlic and black pepper and blend until smooth.
Step 2: In a large bowl coat the drumsticks with the prepared marinade. Toss to coat. (You can go on to grilling right after coating, or you can place in the fridge for a couple of hours or overnight for best results.)
Step 3: Fire up your grill to 375 degrees. Set the burners to a medium-low flame and add the drumsticks and brush generously with the leftover marinade thats left in the bowl. Every 5-7 minutes flip the drumsticks using tongs and then brush the drumsticks again with the leftover marinade. Continue to do so for 30 minutes until the chicken is nicely charred and cooked through. Place on a platter and garnish with sesame seeds and sliced scallions.
