Naomi Watts spent her early years in England with her parents, Peter and Miv. Her dad, a road manager for Pink Floyd, passed away when she was just seven years old. After a few more years in the UK, her mum moved Naomi and her brother Ben to Australia, where Naomi began acting classes at fourteen.
She started out doing commercials and various television series before breaking into films. During the 90s she briefly worked as a nanny for Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman (who has been a close friend since childhood) when she was struggling to make it as an actress in Hollywood.
Naomi began receiving critical acclaim for her work in “Mulholland Dr.” and “21 Grams”, which earned her an Oscar nomination.
In 2005 she met Liev Schreiber on the set of “The Painted Veil”. The two started dating that spring and welcomed their first child, Alexander Pete, in July of 2007. They welcomed a second son, Samuel Kai, on December 13, 2008. Naomi confirmed back in 2009 that Liev had given her a ring, but they have no plans to rush to the altar.
Naomi said of having her sons in her late 30’s: “I didn’t ever think I would be having kids this late. Then two under the age of two in nappys – it’s the hardest thing I’ve ever done, but the most rewarding. “
She was appointed goodwill ambassador for Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS, which helps to raise awareness on AIDS issues.
